Tree Owner DIY Maintenance
Make Good Tree Choices – Choose the right tree for the climate and your space. Good trees for north Texas include Live Oak, Red Oak, Chinquapin Oak, Bur Oak, Cedar Elm, Pecan and Southern Magnolia.
Location – Trees planted on the south and west sides of a house will shade the house from the most intense sun during the hottest part of the day.
Inspect – Regularly inspect trees and shrubs. Check for dead or dying branches, soft or decaying wood, small holes in the trunk or shallow pits in the bark.
Provide Food and Water. Food and water! Deeply water trees during dry spells and droughts; including the winter months. Trees are often planted in soil that lacks nutrients. Regular fertilizer helps replace those missing nutrients.
Call for Help – Many tree pests and diseases can be effectively treated when spotted early. Go outside and enjoy landscape shade trees often. If there is anything on their leaves or bark that looks odd, take action. Contact Harrod’s Arbor Tech to get an expert opinion quickly.
